Photography
I have loved photography since I was young. It started with my dad. His hobby was taking pictures. Although he took mostly family members, friends, and events (like Christmas and vacations), he did experiment with taking photographs of his roses. I have had various types of cameras through my life. My first one was a long rectangular film camera (I was in middle school using it to take photos of friends), and over the past decade, my phone. This year, I finally have a decent camera on my iPhone and enjoying the photos I’m taking.
I would like to try my hand at a real camera, maybe even with film. We have one of Carey’s old digital cameras. But for now, as I have for the past year or two, I’m enjoying taking still life pictures and selfies with friends and family. Capturing details of a place or object is a personal favorite. Recently, after seeing the photos I took on our nature trail walk, my sister-in-law exclaimed, “You made our walk look so interesting.”
My desire has always been to attend to beauty, on coming beauty as I’ve recently heard people quote Curt Thompson. I like that idea of “on coming beauty.” Here are some photos— beauty in the details—from this summer (mostly our vacation but some from around the house and our daily life.)
This year I’ve been paying attention to the photography of Cultivating Project friends—Tom LIskey, Aaron Burden, Lancia Smith, Julie Jablonski, Diana Glyer, Pahtyana Moore—wanting to learn from what they see and how they present their ideas and vision.
